The Heart House has been a part of our family for more than three decades. The home has seen countless church groups come together for a week in the summer, as well as served as a favorite getaway for our family and friends. Many meals, laughs, and card games have been shared around the dining room table throughout the years.

About the House Rental

The Heart House is located right up the mountain, just inside the beautiful Montreat gate. A short car ride from the center of Montreat, the Heart House is secluded, yet close to everything.

Our home offers 8 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, as well as two full kitchens and living areas. The large dining room connected to the main level living area offers enough space to fit a large group, yet is intimate enough for a dinner for two.

The front porch of the home is a great place to sit and relax with a cup of coffee in one of several rocking chairs. The rock patio in the rear of the home is a great place to unwind and enjoy a burger or steak cooked on the charcoal grill at the picnic tables.

The terrace level of the home houses a full kitchen and living area, as well as a place to play table tennis and a full size washer and dryer.

About Montreat

Nestled in the eastern part of Buncombe County, NC, Montreat is a secluded community that has something to offer everyone. Montreat is home to the Montreat Conference Center, a Presbyterian Church USA conference center, which hosts both annual summer conferences and smaller conferences throughout the year. Montreat also serves as home to Montreat College, who offers degree programs for undergradutes, graduate students, and professionals alike.

Montreat Attractions

Montreat has 21 hiking trails with something for everyone from beginner to avid hiker. Montreat houses its own Hiking and Nature Center where you can find trail maps and information on public or guided hikes.

If hiking isn't your thing, Montreat also offers five tennis courts, Robert Lake Park for kids, and Lake Susan, where you can enjoy your day fishing or boating in the paddle boats and canoes available for rent.

In the heart of Montreat, located right next to Lake Susan you'll find shops and a deli-style restaurant with a short order menu.

Black Mountain Attractions

Black Mountain is only five short minutes from Montreat. A quaint town filled with eclectic shops, galleries, and more than 30 unique restaurants, Black Mountain truly has something for everyone.

Located just a few blocks from the center of Black Mountain, Lake Tomahawk is boasts beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, including the Seven Sisters. Take a walk around the half-mile trail that runs around Lake Tomahawk, or bring the kids to play on the playground or see some the many varieties of ducks and geese who call Lake Tomahawk home.

Surrounding Attractions

Just 20 minutes east of Asheville, NC, Montreat is close to all that western North Carolina has to offer. Take the short drive down Interstate 40 and spend the day at the historic Biltmore Estate or spend the day shopping in beautiful downtown Asheville, NC.

Many parks and nature areas are also just a short drive from Montreat. From Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Chimney Rock State Park, there is something for the nature lover only a short drive away.
